Luxury Family Tours in Canada: Everything You Need to Know
Canada is one of the world's great family travel destinations — and private luxury touring makes family travel infinitely more relaxed, flexible, and memorable than group tours or self-driving. GDtours has been operating luxury family tours for international families for over a decade.
Why Private Tours Work Best for Families
Family travel with children has unique requirements: flexible pacing for nap times and bathroom breaks, child-appropriate commentary, safe vehicles with proper seating, and the ability to stop spontaneously when a child spots a bear from the highway. Private tours deliver all of this naturally. Group tours cannot.
GDtours operates exclusively private vehicles — no shared coaches, no other guests. Your family has the guide and vehicle entirely to yourselves. If your 4-year-old needs to stop to watch a ground squirrel at Moraine Lake, we stop. Flexibility is the foundation of great family touring.
Child Safety Equipment
All GDtours vehicles are equipped with Transport Canada-compliant child car seats and booster seats at no additional charge. Specify the ages and weights of children when booking, and appropriate safety seats will be installed and waiting when you arrive. Forward-facing, rear-facing, and high-back booster configurations are all available.
Best Family Destinations in Canada
Vancouver
Vancouver is exceptionally child-friendly. Stanley Park's miniature railway, Vancouver Aquarium (beluga whales, sea otters), Granville Island Kids Market, and the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park (with treetop walkways) all rank consistently as top family experiences.
Whistler
Whistler in summer is exceptional for families — the Peak 2 Peak Gondola is a must for children (most kids rate the glass-bottom gondola cabin as their most exciting experience), the Lost Lake Park has a natural swimming pond perfect for ages 3-12.
Victoria
Victoria's whale watching from April through October is among the world's most reliable cetacean encounters — humpback whales have returned in large numbers after a 50-year absence. Victoria Butterfly Gardens houses thousands of free-flying tropical butterflies. Butchart Gardens offers evening fireworks displays (Saturday evenings) that children universally love.
Banff
The Canadian Rockies are extraordinary for family wildlife watching. Black bears and grizzly bears are regularly spotted from May through October. Children are particularly captivated by Moraine Lake's intense turquoise colour. The Banff Gondola summit boardwalk offers stunning views with minimal hiking required.
