First-Timer's 10-Day Luxury Canada Itinerary
First-time visitors to Canada face a wonderful challenge: the country is vast, the attractions are world-class, and there's far more to see than any single trip can cover. This 10-day itinerary from GDtours is our recommended "greatest hits" itinerary for first-time visitors who want to experience Canada's most iconic landscapes, cities, and experiences in a single coherent journey.
Days 1-2: Arrival in Vancouver
Where to stay: Fairmont Pacific Rim or Rosewood Hotel Georgia
Arrive at YVR Vancouver International Airport. GDtours meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign and provides private transfer to your hotel. Day 2 highlights: Stanley Park Seawall and totem poles, Granville Island Public Market for lunch, Gastown, and a cocktail at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia's rooftop Reflections Bar.
Day 3: Capilano & Grouse Mountain
Begin with the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park — a 137-metre suspension bridge over a 70-metre canyon with a spectacular Cliffwalk cantilevered along the canyon wall. Then to Grouse Mountain for panoramic views of Vancouver. Grouse hosts rescued grizzly bears in a habitat enclosure — one of the most accessible grizzly bear encounters in Canada.
Day 4: Sea-to-Sky to Whistler
Depart Vancouver via the Sea-to-Sky Highway — one of the world's most spectacular coastal mountain drives. Stop at Shannon Falls and the Sea to Sky Gondola near Squamish. Arrive in Whistler for an afternoon on the Peak 2 Peak Gondola. Where to stay: Fairmont Chateau Whistler or Four Seasons Resort Whistler.
Day 5: Victoria Day Trip or Overnight
GDtours recommends the overnight option. Drive back south toward Vancouver, then take BC Ferries from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay. Victoria's Butchart Gardens, afternoon tea at the Fairmont Empress, and the Inner Harbour are essential stops. Where to stay: Fairmont Empress.
Day 6: Victoria Morning, Fly to Calgary
Morning Victoria whale watching (April-October) is exceptional — humpback whales are frequently sighted within 45 minutes of Victoria Harbour. Afternoon floatplane back to Vancouver and connecting flight to Calgary. Depart for Banff (90 minutes west of Calgary). Where to stay: Fairmont Banff Springs or Rimrock Resort Hotel.
Day 7: Banff Exploration
Full day in Banff National Park. Morning: Moraine Lake at sunrise (arrive by 6:30am in summer). Lake Louise and the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Afternoon: Johnston Canyon hike. Banff Gondola summit at sunset.
Day 8: Icefields Parkway — Banff to Jasper
The Icefields Parkway (Highway 93 North) — the world's most scenic drive, 233km from Lake Louise to Jasper. Key stops: Bow Lake, Peyto Lake Viewpoint, the Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre, the Athabasca Glacier, and Athabasca Falls. Where to stay: Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.
Day 9: Jasper National Park
Morning: Maligne Lake and the Spirit Island boat tour. Afternoon: Jasper SkyTram to the Whistlers Mountain summit (2,277m). Evening: wildlife drive along the Athabasca River flats for elk, mule deer, and coyote sightings.
Day 10: Return to Calgary, Fly Home
